Embrace Therapy

Services

At Embrace Therapy, I offer a variety of services to best meet you or your child’s needs. I provide child and family therapy, parent coaching, child therapy, adolescent therapy, young adult therapy, and family therapy. In determining the best fit for you, I will assess you or your child’s specific circumstances, needs, and challenges and develop a treatment plan accordingly. I incorporate numerous therapeutic approaches in my practice.
Child and family therapy
Parents seek out child and family therapy for a variety of reasons. Your child may demonstrate undesirable behaviors, social difficulties, or academic challenges that concern you. For younger children (ages 3-8), play is often a powerful vehicle through which to express thoughts and feelings while also promoting trust and communication. For older children and adolescents (ages 9-18), we may participate in activities, crafts, and games that can help a child feel more comfortable and engaged in the process while developing useful skills. Together, we will work on techniques to improve relationships within your family, model communication, set clear boundaries, and increase consistency in responses to behaviors, all while spending quality time together.
Parent coaching
When working with children, I make sure to provide parents with feedback, support, and guidance. Oftentimes, parents wish to have additional parent guidance in order to gain more insight into their child’s challenges. I will also help you to better manage your own stress and coach you on how to mindfully respond to your child’s issues as they arise.
Individual child and adolescent therapy
Children and adolescents can demonstrate challenging behaviors such as fighting, temper tantrums, emotional withdrawal, or poor performances in school for a variety of reasons. This may include inattention, anxiety, depression, mood dysregulation, poor body image, or low self-worth. They also may act out or shut down in response to parental separation or divorce, high levels of conflict within the family, bullying, physical trauma, sexual abuse, exposure to alcoholism or drug addiction, ADD or ADHD, overuse of technology, and other factors. Adolescents also face a dramatic shift as they begin to demand more independence and privacy and prioritize social issues. They may also start to question their sexual or gender identities or experience pressure as they begin preparations for college or for a career. Adolescents may experience anxiety, depression, eating disorders, suicidal thoughts, alcohol or drug addictions, and other mental health issues as a result of the stresses they face. Individual therapy is a safe and supportive way for your child to further his or her growth and development. Using a combination of mindfulness, ACT, DBT, and CBT, as well as traditional talk therapy, I will perform assessments and pursue a treatment plan that addresses your child’s behavior, mood, and intellectual functioning.
Young adult therapy
Young adults go through a significant transition as they pursue higher education, move away from home, enter romantic partnerships, or begin working. They may grapple with challenges to world or religious views; exposure to new social, academic, or professional settings; confronting sexual or gender identity; or adjusting to societal expectations of adults. Furthermore, the question of “What am I going to do with my life?” is one with which many young adults struggle. These experiences may cause feelings of isolation, confusion, or failure, as well as the inability to make decisions or distress. Young adults are particularly susceptible to depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, alcohol or drug dependence, and other mental health challenges. In our therapy sessions, we will examine the stressors and challenges that hold you back. We will focus on building skills, learning new strategies, and gaining insights into your life as it currently is and work toward making changes to get to the one that you want to lead. I will create an individualized treatment plan that will empower you to take charge and learn how to better express yourself and your needs. My goal is for our work together to help you feel more confident, grounded, fulfilled, and happy.
Child and Adolescent Individual Therapy
  • Mindfulness- Actively noticing your mind and body in the present moment. Carefully observe thoughts and feelings without passing judgment on them.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)- Learn to use mindfulness to promote behaviors that are in line with personal values. Observe thoughts, feelings, sensations, and memories that interfere with these values.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)- Take a goal-oriented, practical, and problem-solving approach. Focus on thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and coping mechanisms, and work on reframing them in order to change behaviors.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)- Employ mindfulness skills to work toward managing challenging emotions and become more effective at handling moments of distress. Improve communication and strengthen relations with others while maintaining self-respect.
Child and Family Therapy
  • Parent-Child Interactive Therapy- Use play to address disruptive behavioral problems ranging from talking back to acts of aggression. Parents receive coaching on how to effectively discipline their children and promote appropriate play.
  • Play Therapy- Engage in play as a vehicle through which to help a child explore life events such as trauma, abuse, parents separating, or other issues that may have a bearing on current circumstances. Children can learn to better communicate their thoughts and emotions and work on personal growth.
  • Family-Based Therapy (also known as Family Focused Therapy or Family Systems Therapy)- Work on changing relationships within your family to better address challenges. Examine the way family members interact, improve the functioning of the family as a unit, and address the role each individual plays, thereby enhancing communication and reducing conflict.
  • Parent Guidance- Private and personalized sessions for parents. Learn techniques and receive coaching to address the specific needs of your family.
